We went to Scotland for a wedding just outside Glasgow, at Kilsyth. The reception was held at a castle. The most difficult part was spending an hour and a half in the church, but I survived. There was a large brass urn in the church, but they did not serve any tea or coffee, only some wine and dry biscuits.We stayed at the Premier Lodge, Bearsden, it was very good, the breakfast did not live up to expectations,no black pudding and the waitress thought we weren't entitled to the cooked food option!
There were a lot of men there in skirts. There was a piper who played on the battlements as the guests arrived. The grounds were q real picture and Liz was quite taken by them she was quite taken by the box hedges. The reception was in a large marquee. We were served with champagne and snacks on arrival until the speeches, while the pictures were being taken.
The porta loos were even quite fancy, wood lined with gold taps and prints of Grand National winners in frames on the walls. It was some time before Liz discovered this, as she made use of the loos in the old tower. The leader if the Lib Dems, Sir Menzies Campbell, was also in attendance although he did not look very well and left early. He did sit down and fall asleep during the speeches, all those years of listening to speeches in parliament I suppose. The speeches were very entertaining and after the main meal was served there was a jazz band who played. The band was wonderful and played a good mix. Liz wore out a few people withe her dancing and at one stage was even serving champagne to folks and got to shake Menzies Campbell's hand. We were very lucky with the weather it rained a little in the morning, but cleared up for the reception in the afternoon. The next day it started to rain at about nine in the morning and did not stop for the rest of the weekend.
