The Doctor

We went to see Dennis Lacorriere, last night, at the Broadway Theatre in Peterborough. What a show! The show was excellent and included half an hour of the former Smokie lead singer, he was great and was worth the price of the tickets alone. Dennis Lacorriere was one of the lead singers for Dr Hook and was very good, what a show we have never seen so many older people gathered for a pop show before, and a lot of themwere playing with their cell phones, just to prove it is not only the kids that use them, it was quite an eye opener. The usherette had to keep telling people off for trying to take sneaky pics of the show. The band was also on the mature side, but they knew their stuff. Seeing a couple of balding guitarists tuning up before the show gave us cause for a few comments. The whole thing was well done and he sang a lot of the old hits, they were very popular in the seventies, so you can guess the average age of the audience. There were a couple of old rockers with the obligatory black T shirts and illegible or obsene words on them, generally it was a good evening out.
The only blot was when I put £3.50 in the parking machine only to have Liz point out a sign saying tikets were £1 after 5pm ££$%£"**(&^ it.
We are going out to a fire warming party tonight and Liz has made some of her meringues, hopefully there will be few pictures.

Holidays in Bath

We have just had a couple of days down in the south west near Bath. Liz and I had some leave, so we decided to get in the car and drive south. Catriona lent us her Satnav, which was alright getting us to Swindon. There were a few serious disagreements with it when I went one way and it wanted me to go another. It did try to make me turn off the road, but I ignored it and went my own way, it did not sound too happy about it. It got a bit pannicked when we stopped at a garage near Oxford for break and kept telling us to do a "U" turn,
but we ignored her and when we started off again it did not want to talk to us. The machine was so fed up with us in the end it refused to talk at all, so we turned it off and reverted to the old fashioned method, printed map and Liz!

We eventually made an overnight stop at a place called Farleigh Wick near Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire. We liked it so much we stayed two nights. The place had a B & B next to a pub, that clinched it, so we stayed and tried out the pub. The pub was the Fox & Hounds and we had an excellent meal there. The pub was closed on the Monday night so we went to a Chinese restaurant, in Bradford on Avon, called the Feng Shui. The food there was also very good and the waitress very friendly, but they don't seem to do chow mien or chop suey, perhaps we are a little old fashioned. We found out that the waitress was from Zimbabwe and had been out four years, she was the same age as Robyn and her sister and friend were also in for the night having a meal, so Liz was able to use a few of those good old Rhodie slang terms(mushi sterrek etc)

We went by rail to Bath from Bradford-on-Avon and spent the day walking the streets of Bath looking for a Laura Ashley dress shop that Liz remembered from thirty odd years ago, where she had bought a dress for a fiver. We eventually found the shop, but the dresses were sold out, can you beat that! We had a drink and some lunch at a Pret a Manger place, it was very nice and the sit down was quite welcome too. We spent a bit more time wandering around Bath and then headed for the station to catch the train back. This was the start of a small drama, I had lost one of the return tickets, but after a little talk with a chap at the station by Liz we got a free pass to replace it. I took a couple more pics in Bradford-on-Avon and then we went back to base.

Both pictures were taken at Bradford-on Avon, I am hoping to post others on the Photosite page. One picture seems to indicate Masonic ties and we thought we saw a goat in one of the windows (for the more informed)

That's it for another couple of days.
